Mark T. Duffy is a transdisciplinary artist living in Oakland, Ca. His work in painting expresses an interest in understanding how power and authority affect society. He examines ambivalences around race, class, gender and power structures through research in critical post-humanities, involving affirmative ethics and critique of humanism and anthropocentrism. His process makes expression primary, followed by conceptual and narrative concerns, using chance and improvisation; a mode of thinking that subverts language to contend with the apparent impossibility of news forms. He has exhibited at SFMOMA Library and the non-profit artist-run space Slash, in San Francisco, CA. In 2024 he completed a residency at Yaddo in New York. He is currently a UC Berkeley Art Practice MFA candidate (2027).
